We just got back from an amazing weekend in Eugene, Oregon, where we had the chance to experience the 50th Prefontaine Classic—and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
We stayed at The Gordon Hotel, which couldn’t have been more perfect. It’s right in the heart of the 5th Street Public Market district, surrounded by great restaurants, boutiques, and local energy. The hotel itself has this cool, modern-art vibe—comfortable, stylish, and full of little design touches that made it feel special. Plus, we loved the rooftop bar and all the local artwork throughout the space. You can tell it’s a place that celebrates creativity and community.
As for the Prefontaine Classic, it was nothing short of electric. Celebrating its 50th year, this wasn’t just a track meet—it was a full-on tribute to the legacy of Steve Prefontaine and the history of elite running in TrackTown USA. From the record-breaking performances to the sheer energy inside Hayward Field, the atmosphere was unforgettable. Whether you're a lifelong track fan or just someone who appreciates athletic excellence, it was something to see.
Between the action at the meet, strolls around downtown Eugene, and relaxing evenings back at The Gordon, the whole trip had the perfect mix of excitement and comfort.
One of the highlights outside the stadium was our hike up Spencer Butte. It’s a short but steep climb, and the views from the top were absolutely worth it. Standing above the tree line with a panoramic look over the Willamette Valley was a great way to start the day—and the perfect reminder of why outdoor lovers flock to Eugene. It gave us a different perspective on the area, both literally and figuratively.
Eugene is one of those places that feels both laid-back and alive with passion—especially when the Pre Classic comes to town. We’re already talking about making this an annual tradition.
