Living in Tucson has given us the perfect balance of desert adventure, incredible food, strong coffee, and easy weekend escapes. It’s a city where you can hike among towering saguaros in the morning, sip locally roasted coffee by midday, and watch the sunset from a mountaintop observatory at night.
Over time, we’ve built our list of go-to favorites—the places and experiences that truly define our Tucson life.
šµ Our Favorite Tucson Adventures
Saguaro National Park
Nothing says Tucson quite like Saguaro National Park. Whether we’re driving the scenic loop, hiking at golden hour, or simply pulling over for photos after a monsoon rain, the park never gets old.
The towering saguaros—some over 150 years old—create a landscape that feels both dramatic and peaceful. It’s our reset button. When we want to reconnect with why we love living here, this is where we go.
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is one of Tucson’s true gems. Part zoo, part botanical garden, part natural history museum—it captures the Sonoran Desert in a way that feels immersive and alive.
The Raptor Experience is always a highlight, with birds soaring just overhead against a mountain backdrop. It’s one of those places we take every visitor, and it never disappoints.
Kitt Peak National Observatory
For night-sky magic, nothing compares to Kitt Peak National Observatory. Watching the sunset from the mountaintop and then looking through powerful telescopes at distant planets and galaxies is unforgettable.
Tucson’s dark skies make stargazing here truly spectacular. It’s quiet, expansive, and humbling—in the best way.
š½️ Our Favorite Restaurants
Tucson’s food scene is one of the most underrated in the country. As a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, it blends Mexican heritage, Sonoran flavors, and creative modern cuisine.
Redbird
Redbird Scratch Kitchen + Bar is one of our favorite spots for a polished but comfortable night out. Thoughtful dishes, craft cocktails, and a cozy atmosphere make it perfect for date night or celebrating something special.
Ikkyu
For sushi nights, we head to Ikkyu. It’s intimate, consistent, and always fresh. It’s the kind of place where you sit at the bar, order a few rolls (and maybe one more than planned), and settle in for a relaxed evening.
Kukai
Kukai is another favorite when we’re craving Japanese comfort food. From ramen to rice bowls, it’s satisfying, flavorful, and perfect after a long day of desert exploring.
El Charro
You can’t talk about Tucson food without mentioning El Charro CafĆ©. As one of the oldest Mexican restaurants in the United States, it’s a Tucson institution. The carne seca is legendary, and the history woven into the walls makes every meal feel like part of the city’s story.
Baja Cafe
You can’t talk about Tucson food without mentioning our favorite brunch spot: Baja Cafe. The pancakes are legendary!
☕ Our Go-To Coffee Shops
Coffee is practically a hobby for us, and Tucson delivers.
Hello Bicycle
Hello Bicycle CafĆ© combines two of Tucson’s best things: coffee and cycling culture. Great espresso, relaxed vibes, and a welcoming community feel.
Black Crown
Eclectic and artsy, Black Crown Coffee Company feels like a creative hideaway. It’s perfect for slow mornings, reading, or long conversations over strong coffee.
Savaya
For beautifully crafted drinks and modern ambiance, we love Savaya Coffee Market. It’s bright, clean, and always consistent—ideal for both work sessions and casual meetups.
Crema
Crema Coffee + is another staple. Excellent coffee, friendly service, and a menu that makes it easy to linger longer than planned.
š Our Favorite Weekend Trips
One of the best parts about living in Tucson is how easy it is to escape for the weekend.
Flagstaff & Snowbowl
When we’re craving cooler air and mountain views, we head north to Flagstaff and ski at Arizona Snowbowl. Trading saguaros for pine trees and snow-covered slopes feels like stepping into a different state entirely.
Sedona
Red rock formations and scenic hikes make Sedona one of our favorite quick getaways. The contrast between Tucson’s desert floor and Sedona’s dramatic red cliffs never gets old.
Bisbee
For artsy charm and historic streets, we love spending a weekend in Bisbee. Colorful hillside homes, great coffee, and deep mining history make it one of Arizona’s most unique small towns.
Why Tucson Feels Like Home
What makes Tucson special isn’t just one restaurant or one hike—it’s the combination.
It’s grabbing coffee before a morning desert drive.
It’s watching saguaros glow at sunset.
It’s eating incredible Mexican food on a random Tuesday.
It’s planning a spontaneous weekend road trip north.
Tucson offers adventure without pretension, beauty without crowds, and a food scene that constantly surprises us.
The longer we’re here, the more it feels like exactly where we’re meant to be. šµ✨
