Our road trip from Salt Lake City to Boise turned into a perfect mix of scenic stops, city exploration, and laid-back vibes.
We hit the road in the morning, with the first highlight of the trip being Shoshone Falls. Sometimes called the “Niagara of the West,” it’s easy to see why. Pulling up and seeing all that water cascading down against the canyon walls made the drive instantly worth it. We spent some time walking along the viewpoints, taking in the scale and power of the falls—it’s one of those stops where you just have to pause and soak it all in.
After that, we continued on to Boise, arriving in the afternoon with just enough time to explore downtown. We strolled past the Idaho State Capitol, admiring its stately architecture and open grounds. A few blocks later, we wandered into Freak Alley Gallery, a dynamic outdoor mural project that’s constantly changing. It felt like the heart of the city’s creativity—colorful, eclectic, and full of energy. Downtown Boise has a walkable, approachable feel, and it was easy to lose track of time just exploring the streets, small shops, and public art.
Our home base for the night was the Renegade Hotel, a boutique spot with a modern, stylish interior and comfortable rooms. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a neighborhood, not just a hotel—perfect for a city stay with personality.
The next morning, we fueled up at Blue Collar Coffee, a local favorite that serves strong coffee and a cozy vibe. It was exactly the pick-me-up we needed before heading out for more city wandering and sightseeing.
Dinner that evening was at The Supper Club, a relaxed spot with hearty, elevated comfort food. The ambiance was low-key but lively, and it felt like a great way to cap off a full day of travel, exploration, and good meals.
By the end of the stay, we felt like we’d truly gotten a taste of Boise’s character, from waterfalls to murals to great food and coffee—a small but memorable adventure in the middle of a longer journey.
