Nestled in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Brookgreen Gardens is a breathtaking blend of art, history, and nature. On our recent day trip, we discovered just how magical this place truly is. With its stunning sculptures, ancient live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and diverse wildlife, Brookgreen Gardens offered the perfect mix of culture and relaxation.
First, we made our way to the Lowcountry Zoo, where we got up close with native wildlife. We watched playful otters swim effortlessly through the water, spotted alligators basking in the sun, and admired a variety of birds, including majestic eagles and herons. The zoo focuses on conservation and education, making it both an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
Our next stop was the famous sculpture garden, home to over 2,000 pieces of artwork. As we wandered through the pathways, we were captivated by the intricate details of each statue. Some depicted graceful figures, while others showcased powerful, dramatic scenes. The setting itself was just as beautiful, with reflective pools and seasonal blooms enhancing the experience.
Our favorite sight was the Live Oak Allee. Towering trees, some centuries old, stretched their limbs across the pathway, creating a shaded tunnel of greenery.
